Which view of Lisbon is the most beautiful?

Rest your feet, it’s not worth to walk uphill everywhere

.

“Miradouro” is a Portuguese word for scenic vista terraces. And thanks to the fact that this city is built on the hills, you’ll exercise your butt a lot. I visited the most famous miradouros in the town and here’s my review.

Miradouro de Santa Luzia and Portas do Sol

Both (only few meters apart) are hidden between buildings of Alfama neighborhood and they’re worth visiting for sure. If you’ll go there early in the morning, you’ll able to watch a beautiful sunrise. Graffiti in the area and colorful arch portraying history of Lisbon under Portas do Sol (port. Gates of the Sun) are only an added bonus.

This miradouro, on the other side, disappointed me a lot. I only visited it because I rode with Ascensor da Bica, which is a great attraction. But the view is good only for customers of a restaurant with terrace, others can peek from behind a fence at best. And the view it’s not even as beautiful as others

This miradouro is actually okay. As in the previous place, you can ride uphill with Ascensor da Glória. But to be honest… there are more beautiful views on the city. Open-air gallery on the way to the top is, on the other hand, amazing.

You’ll break a sweat with this one (if you don’t drive there with car), but don’t get discouraged. View from this place is the most widespread of all, you’ll everything – the castle, river Tejo, the bridge of 25th April, statue of Christ on the opposite side and much more. And I haven’t met anybody while visiting it early in the morning as well.

You can visit all miradouros listed above for free.  Elevador de Santa Justa is very popular too, so I added it to my list.

Elevador is famous thanks to its location right in the city center. The view is nice especially in the evening. But it’s not as private or exceptional as some others. If you have VivaViagem card, you can get to the first floor for free, the second floor (the highest) costs 1,50 €.

This view is completely different, as it’s on the other side of the river, on the top hill of the little town Almada. The most remarkable is the red Bridge of 25. April. Moreover, this is a very nice, calm place to get a photo with statue of Christ. There is also another viewpoint in the statue – but it’s paid.
